2011 Jeep Wrangler Preview - More Power, More Mileage
Check Out Our New Jeep Wrangler Inventory!!!
The Jeep Wrangler is the ultimate off road machine. It offers drivers a
stellar four-wheel drive system for, not only fun, but also all-weather
capability. The Wrangler comes in many configurations, it is available
with a convertible body style, with a soft top, a hard top option, the doors
are removable, and there is now the Unlimited, a four door version that offers
more cargo space and more passenger space. Jeep's owner, Chrysler LLC has been
reorganized and downsized; many models will undoubtedly be axed. But
considering the Wrangler's long standing popularity and appeal, it will
continue for the 2011 model year. There is even an electric Wrangler in
development under Chrysler's all electric division, ENVI. The 2011 Jeep
Wrangler will likely feature a 3.6L Penstastar V6 Engine with variable valve
timing, which will give it more power and torque, while getting better mileage
at the same time. Other positive changes will include a more aerodynamic
exterior design for, again, better fuel economy. The improved Jeep specialty,
Quadra Lift will give the Wrangler best in class ground clearance. The 2011
Wrangler is due in the second or third quarter of 2010.
2011 Lineup
The Jeep Wrangler is offered in a wide variety of levels, including a four door
option, the Unlimited. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is offered in three
trim levels: base X, mid-line Sahara, and off-road oriented Rubicon. Standard
features will include stain-resistant cloth upholstery; air conditioning; power
windows, locks and mirrors; remote keyless entry; cruise control; an Infinity
sound system with Sirius satellite radio; compass; outside-temperature
indicator; skid plates to protect the transfer case and fuel tank; fog lamps;
and all-terrain tires on aluminum wheels. The Sahara trim offers body colour
flares, Infinity speakers, remote keyless entry, power window, security alarm,
power door locks with remote keyless entry, and 18-inch wheels. The Rubicon
Wrangler is especially for the serious off roader. It features equipment that
off-road enthusiasts usually add anyway, including heavy duty axles, front and
rear electronic locking differentials, 32-inch BF Goodrich mud tires, sway bar
disconnect system, rock rails and a heavy-duty transfer case with 4:1 low-gear
ratio. The available Freedom Top three-piece modular hardtop allows panels to
be removed above the driver or passenger. Other options include Dual Top Group,
half doors, remote start system, front seat-mounted side air bags, and MyGIG
infotainment system with navigation.
Jeep Wrangler Capability
The Jeep Wrangler is famous for it's off road capabilities. There are many
vehicles on the market that can handle trails, or at least be equipped
to. But none outshine the Wrangler. Jeeps 'Trail Rated' certification
just goes to show that the Wrangler was built to get muddy, climb hills and go
over rocks. On road travel has never been a strong spot, the Wrangler is
known for be bouncy and rough on the road. But if you compare a Wrangler from
even ten years ago to the current generation, there is a difference between
light and day how it handles. Hill Start Assist, which makes it easier to get
moving from rest while heading uphill, is standard equipment, and the optional
Trailer Tow Group includes Trailer Sway control, which monitors vehicle
movement relative to the driver's intended path and initiates the activation of
the electronic stability control if the trailer begins to sway to an excessive
degree.
With its aggressive angles and rugged look
the Wrangler is one vehicle that is easy to spot. Whether the top is down, the
doors or off, or it's the longer Unlimited version, in most cases you will know
it's a Jeep. Under the body, there's a boxed frame with seven crossmembers.
Wide-spaced frame rails cradle the fuel tank between the wheels. Three skid
plates protect the fuel tank, transfer case and automatic transmission oil pan.
Up front you'll find the classic round headlamps, Jeep's seven-slot grille, and
a front bumper with integrated fog lamps. The upright fold-down windshield is
slightly curved for better aerodynamics and reduced wind noise. Along the
sides, all Wranglers have assist steps under the doors to make climbing in
easier, and fender flares that are bolted on, so they can be easily taken off
for repair or replacement. The latest generation looks quite similar to the
previous version, which ended production with the 2006 model year. Most
important, Wranglers have always had a distinct family resemblance to the
original Jeep of World War II fame. The standard soft top is relatively
easy to remove and install. The Sunrider soft top slides back half way, like a
huge sunroof over the front seats. The optional three-piece modular hardtop
(Freedom Top) has two front panels that easily pop on and off like a T-top, and
can be stored behind the rear seat. The third panel over the rear seat can be removed
separately and stored in the garage. The Freedom Top yields a total of six
open-air possibilities.
2011 Wrangler Cabin Features
The Wrangler has much improved in the way of comfort for riders. Though
it is still mostly about utility, the Wrangler has more comfortable seats, more
organizational features, and better technology. The addition of the
Unlimited as a four door model was welcome among the 'Jeepers' and future fans
alike. The four-door doesn't change the character of the Wrangler but makes it
easier to own and more practical for many. Inside, it's much more comfortable
and convenient, offering more cargo and rear-seat passenger space. Still,
the traditional two-door Wrangler has its charms. The 2011 Wrangler will
likely get some minor interior updates, but for the most part will remain
similar to the 2009 model.
Powering the Wrangler

Better fuel efficiency and more power are expected for the 2011 Wrangler. It is
quite possible that by 2011, the electric drivetrain, Jeep Wrangler EV will be
in production. This is a much anticipated alternative fuel vehicle that
is part of Chrysler's ENVI lineup, a group of electric vehicles in development.
The Wrangler EV has been shown off at car shows and driving video
footage. If it does become available it will offer the best of both
worlds; traditional Jeep style in combination with 'green' driving.
Furthermore, the new Pentastar V6 will likely be the gasoline powered '11
Wrangler engine of choice. The Pentastar has been proven as an excellent engine
with more torque and power and even more efficiency.
Summary
The
Wrangler is one of the most fun-to-drive, off-road-capable Jeeps ever made.
From its open-air driving to its more practical hard top, even the doors can be
removed for ultimate fun. Electronic stability control with roll control,
traction control, brake assist and hill hold control are standard on all
Wranglers. The Wrangler offers ever lasting appeal as it has the availability of
extensive array of optional equipment and features makes the possible number of
combinations to suit a wide range of consumers, from the hard core off roaders,
to those looking for comfort (relatively speaking) and cabin features. The
standard six-speed manual fits the Wrangler's personality, but the optional
four-speed automatic is more convenient.
